Almost there...
Well, it's been a long time coming, but we're almost done with the basement renovations. As of today, the all the painting is done and the bathroom is back together again. Carpet has been picked out, it's just a matter of getting on the schedule (and of course a couple days of prep work before they can even lay the carpet). An end is in sight!

Here's the latest pictures.

Waterproofing done
Mid-Atlantic completed the waterproofing today. Everything looks pretty good - let's hope it works. Now to get the carpenter back in here to rebuild, then we can repaint and get new carpet. Still feels like a long way to go...

Another day in the basement
Work progressed today in the basement. They got the trenches fully dug out, inserted the drain pipe and sump pumps, drilled holes in the block, and clean out a lot of dirt and concrete (see the picture of the truck). Tomorrow they'll be back to finish up the floor. Pix here.

Drying out
After over 2 years of trying in vain to fix it ourselves, work has now begun by professionals on the basement. On Sunday "Chris the Carpenter" came and did a bunch of demo work in preparation for Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing coming today. So far they got a trench dug out around the entire perimeter of the basement. Here are some pictures of the work so far.

Later bitches
Well, that wraps it up from sunny San Diego. I leave at noon tomorrow. All in all, we had a good time, but its feeling like time to go home.

Not much to report and no real pictures were taken today, so I leave you with a couple of pix taken from the window of our hotel room here.

Geeks Gone Wild
Once again - a LONG day. We started out with the Star Wars Fan Club Breakfast. We didn't win any of the door prizes, but we did get a goody bad of assorted Star Wars stuff from the Lucasfilm archives (nothing too exciting). From there, we headed back to the line for Hall H and the 'Superman Returns' preview panel with director Bryan Singer. Let me tell you - this flick looks AMAZING! Wait until you see Brandon Roush as Clark/Superman and a bald Kevin Spacey as Mr. Luthor. When that let out, we took a stroll through the exhibit hall and got a sketch and autograph from one of my all time favorite writer/artists Matt Wagner. Dan and I split up at this point and I went to bring some stuff back to the hotel while he went to stakeout a place for the Serenity panel he wanted to attend. After dropping the stuff off, I headed back in to go to a 'Family Guy' DVD movie preview followed by a panel on voice-over acting. After that, I joined Dan back in Hall H for the 'King Kong' preview. They were running a little behind, so I got to see the panel for 'Ghost Rider' with Avi Arad, Mark Steven Johnson, and Eva Mendes. The clip/trailer looks promising. After that was a surprise panel for 'Stealth' with Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel, Josh Lucas, and director Rob Cohen. I still have no desire to see this movie. Then it was time for Kong. We were shown a brief intro from Peter Jackson, we saw the triler that is currently available online and a short clip of one of the scenes in the film. We were then joined by stars Adrian Brody, Naomi Watts, and Jack Black who were on-hand to answer questions (although it seems most of the questions were really comments about how much Tenacious D rocks). After a brief break while they were trying to accomodate everyone still filing into the theatre, it was finally time for the D. JB and KG rocked the house with a few new songs, a couple of old favorites and closed with a superb 'Tommy" medley. A fun time was had by all. It was really a thrill to catch them live - something I've wanted to do for years.

Once again, you can see all the pix from today here.

Tomorrow - a visit to 'Narnia' and a screening of '24 Hours Later'.

Geeks on parade
Well, the con officially started on Thursday. Not too much to tell from yesterday - all we did was walk around and take everything in. I have a few pix here from Thursday.

Today however, we spent most of the day in Hall H - the 6000 seat theatre at the convention center - watchin various panels. First was the Warner Bros. presentation where we saw the first trailer for 'V for Vendetta' (which just looks amazing), a new one for 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', the 1st 10 minutes of 'The Fountain' (Darren Aronofsky's new film), and a clip from 'Tim Burton's Corpse Bride'. After that we headed out, got some lunch, and went to get Ray Park's autograph as part of the Master Replicas Collectors Club signing. After that, Dan and I headed back to Hall H for the Disney panel. Here we got to see clips from 'Chicken Little', 'Sky High', 'Toy Story 10th Anniversary DVD', and 'Cars'. After that was the big Star Wars panel. No new real news from that - just a bunch of neat little movies and one deleted scene that will be on the Episode 3 DVD in November.

Tonight, we went to the Master Replicas party over at the Westin. they had a few cool raffle giveaways, but unfortunately we didn't win. They also announced that they have acquired the rights to put out replicas based on Marvel Comics properties. Should be pretty cool.

Pix from today can be found here.

I know - I stink
I know that I haven't updated this in a couple of days. Sorry. We've been really busy. I'll try to break it down day-by-day.

MONDAY
Disneyland!!! We got up at the crack of dawn, picked up Jamie and Dani, and headed up I-5 to Anaheim. Got there in about 1 1/2 hours - not too bad. Park was not too crowded in the morning, but by afternoon it was insane. We headed over to the new California Adventure park in the early afternoon. They have some fun rides over there and it wasn't that crowded. After riding everything there that we wanted to, we headed back over to the Magic Kingdom for the fireworks and Fantasmic. It turns out that what I thought was crowded earlier was nothing. It was INSANE! I have been to Walt Disney World in Florida many tmes, and this was more crowded that any time I have ever been there with the exception of New Year's Eve for Y2K. After being pushed, shoved, and run over by inconsiderate parents with strollers, I had it. I left the others to watch the Fantasmic show and I made my way back to the front of the park where I checked out a pretty good movie about the first 50 years of Disneyland. After that, I met up wit hthe others and we made the long journey back to San Diego, arrivingat the hotel at about 2am. You can see pix from Disney here.

TUESDAY
Slept in today - was a really long day at Disney and we really needed to rest. After finally getting our asses moving, we headed to Sea World. I've never been to a Sea World, and I was pretty impressed. It was clean, well organized, and well laid out. Caught a sea lion show, fed the dolphins, and saw quite a few sea animals. Of course, we had to cap off the night with a Shamu show and fireworks. All in all - a good day. Again, pix can be found here.

WEDNESDAY
Dan and I got up earlier today and got some breakfast at this place called Big Kitchen that I saw profiled on the Travel Channel (or maybe it was Food Network). Great food. After that we went to pick up Jamie and Dani and went down to Coronado to hit the beach and see the famous Hotel Del Coronado. The sand is very fine and there was a bit of a breeze, so we were very lightly sandblasted. The water was also suprisingly chilly. We didn't stay too long as Jamie and Dani had to check into their hotel for the rest of the week and Dan and I wanted to shower, eat and change before the start of the Comicon. Pix of Coronado and the beach here.

Comicon preview night - Wow. This is huge. We got our first look at the floor of the con tonight and it is amazing. We were able to secure the couple exclusive con items that we wanted to get, so we don't have to worry about the long lines later on this weekend. We didn't get to see too much, but from what we did see we are impressed. Time to turn in for the night so I'm well rested for tomorrow. Pix from preview night are here.

San Dico's Sexually Di-morphic Deers
Another long day and I am exhausted once again. For a vacation, we have been more active than I usually am when I'm working. Dan, Jamie, Dani and I headed out to the San Diego Zoo this morning. It was a beautiful day once again (but when isn't it here?). Saw a lot of neat animals that you don't normally get to see in zoos like koalas and giant pandas. Not a whole lot more to say about the zoo, but you can check out pix here.

After walking all morning and most of the afternoon, we headed out to the San Diego Wild Animal park, which is kind of like their version of Disney's Animal Kingdom. Apparently the highlight of this park is the 60-minute train ride that takes you around their savanna/safari area. Well, our tour guide was a little bit inept (to put it nicely). Juan goes down in history as the "worst tour guide ever". He would drive by animals, then slow down the train and tell us what we had just passed, all the while mumbling about babies, and one of the seemingly endless types of "deers" that we were seeing. After the trainride, we just kind of wandered around and ended up at an African acrobat show that was pretty cool. Sadly, most of those pictures didn't come out very well because they were leaping, dancing, and tumbling all over the place. You can also check out pix from the Wild Animal Park here (they are the ones that start with the shot of Dan, Jamie, and Dani on the train.

Tomorrow - DISNEYLAND. Itll be a really long day, but I'll try to update this when I can.

They named it San Diago which of course in German means a whale's vagina.
Well, we're here. Not typing much tonight - I've been up for way too many hours. Flight went off without a hitch (lovin' the JetBlue), met up with Jamie and Danielle at the terminal, landed safely, got a sweet deal on our rental car, and the hotel is beautiful.

More tomorrow and hopefully some pix too.
